Hard times for Graduates
by Claudia Sonea

The economic crisis is far from being over. After living with the optimistic announces that by the end of 2009 the crisis will be mostly over and things will get back on their track, people are now starting to wake up and face the cold reality. Only three months away from 2010 and things are getting worst. Big names of the industry like Intel are restructuring, so you might just be tempted to ask what happens with the small entrepreneurs that struggled even before the economical downturn. Central banks around the world established as the main aim the prevention of a decline in global consumption, but what a! bout unemployment? They would say that the two matters are interdependent, because unemployment and small wages lead to restrictions of the amounts people would spend on goods. You would definitely not throw your money on a 450$ iPhone if you don’t know what awaits for you tomorrow; you could just as well get fired. During the previous crisis those working in the newly developed industries were hit badly. The current crisis is affecting the ones occupying jobs that require a high degree of education and experience whose pay checks have around six figures on them. Why? The main reason is that nowadays the number of graduate employees has increase with over 26 percent, while the offers for graduate-level jobs are stagnating. Unfortunately, those who acquire large debts just to obtain a degree and then get a good job are now left stranded and with no alternatives because they cannot find work. Still, wh! at most of us, the fresh graduates, don’t understand is ! that if we all work behind a desk or as executives who will manufacture and distribute. There is a big need for skilled workers who can put back the economy on its track. Even the greatest kings knew that in order to rule, they need the masses. However, the graduates will not give up their high expectations in spite of the crisis. What will they do? Stay connected and you will find out.
