Sunday, a powerful blaze transformed to debris the Penhallow Hotel from Newquay, Cornwall.A 43 year old is believed that jumped from the second-floor after fire broke out Saturday at midnight.Almost eighty persons, mostly elderly, were evacuated from the hotel, but two are still recorded as missing. Four people are in the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and their condition is improving except for one of them, which is in a critical but stable condition.Police thinks that the two people missing, one of them believed that is related to the 43 year old man, are dead. Their family has been informed about this.A police spokesman said: "The search continues for the other unaccounted for person and any relevant evidence to assist the investigation."Until yesterday afternoon, the firefighters and the police had not been able to get into the smouldering wreckage.Although it is not presumed to be arson, police declared the fire as a major crime scene "until evidence to the contrary".Detective Chief Inspector Darren Lockley said: "We are looking to trace people that have images or recordings of what happened on that night. We are trying to establish what happened and those images will be of vital importance."A team of 20 people are already searching through the hotel's ruble hoping to find some useful information that will lead to the cause of the fire.

Divorce rates in Britain haven't been this low since 1977 Corina Ciubotaru

Good news for the institution of marriage: divorce numbers are falling in Britain. They've reached their lowest point for the last 30 years, and the divorce age has risen. This rise might be due to people's thinking that marriage is more serious than they once believed, but also to their trusting marriage therapy more than they used to. The average age for divorce in men has gone up to 43.3, while most women get divorced at 40.9. Last year, figures also showed a decrease in divorce numbers, and it was the smallest number in 5 years, so the trend seems to be here to stay. The most couples to divorce were in 1993, at 180,018 and now, the percent per 1000 people has reached 12.2 when it comes to provisional divorces. Most often, women are granted the divorce and the most common reason for a permanent break-up is character. They also say their men have become too controlling and they can't take it anymore. In 2000, the divorce rate was also the lowest in 20 years, with 144,600 marriages ending in 1999 and the new marriage number as low as it was in the 1920s. A reason might be that more people now are choosing to live together rather than have a formal wedding, and it might be the media's influence that gets them to think so. Recent celebrity divorces, still, have shown them that it's a messy and expensive business that affects the husbands and kids alike, sometimes leaving permanent scars.

London's Tube workers will be on strike for the next 3 days Corina Ciubotaru

The London tube will be somewhat crippled in the next few days by a strike following the collapse of Metronet, the company that made sure the metro lines and trains are in working order. The Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has organized a three-day protest to ensure that there will be no negative side effects for the former workers of Metronet, and two more transport unions might join them in the action. These are The Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) and Unite, which together represent the interests of a few hundred Tube workers. During the strike, trains will function but there will be no maintenance crews available, so if anything gets broken, it will not be fixed in these 72 hours. The Mayor of London Mr. Ken Livingstone, along with the administrator of Metronet has tried to reassure the workers that no jobs or pensions would be lost but his words had little effect on the workers' morale, as they have decided the promises were not to be fully trusted. The strike will repeat next month if there still are problems, and this is not very good news for the millions of people that travel by train in London daily. The action will start at 6 P.M. on Monday and two-thirds of trains will not function for the next three days, so commuters are advised to switch to other forms of transport and consider walking. The second stoppage is scheduled to start on September 10th and last for another 72 hours.

Basra stands alone Claudia Sonea

For the first time after the American invasion in 2003, the second largest Iraqi city is without foreign troops and stands alone to front all the terrorist attacks. The British prime minister, Gordon Brown, said that although the British forces (around 500) have left the base, Basra Palace (around 11 p.m. local time on Sunday) they will still have an over watch role and they can intervene if necessary. According to the statement on his Web site that actually quotes the interview with BBC Radio the troop's number depends on how things will evolve. For the time been the British troops are stationed to the main command center inside the city to the Iraqi Army, says Gen. Mohan al-Fereiji, the commander of Iraqi forces in Basra. Despite the fact that there is no official timetable for the British withdrawal the number is expected to reduce from 5500 to 5000. The date period given by a Ministry of Defense was around autumn, depending on how things are settling and the security of Basra will be handed over to provincial Iraqi control. The public is criticizing the decision saying that the Mahdi Army militia led by Moktada al-Sadr and other Shiite religious militant groups can see it as an easy target. But the British officials say that the problem is criminal bands and not insurgents. Their presence is the one that actually draws the terrorist attacks and the local people agree to this statement. Expecting to see the results both British and Iraqi officials are careful to avoid the things that happened in other cities after the troops left them. Until further solutions are found!stay close and surf for more news!

Three year old Madeleine McCann has been gone for 124 days and counting Corina Ciubotaru

The saddest stories in the history of news involve children and animals. Whether they get abducted, killed or hurt, it's always the stories of the helpless that move us the most. Such is the case of Madeleine McCann, a three year old girl from Britain who went missing while she was in Portugal with her parents, Gerry and Kate. It's already been 124 days since nobody knows anything about what happened to her, where she was taken or when she will be brought back. The media in the U.K. and Portugal have told this story time and time again, without hesitating to make up their own stories and witnesses when the brute facts did not suffice. But it has only helped the sales of their newspapers, when they figured out that this story sells. It hasn't helped the police, or Madeleine, or her worried parents who are desperately waiting for an answer from the inexperienced policemen handling the investigation. Portugal has a policy of not releasing information on an investigation to the wider audience so they can't rely on the public for help or give reassurance to the parents. Instead, Gerry and Kate have launched their own campaign to popularize the kidnapping and make people aware that they can lend a hand. Celebrities like David Beckham have donated money to the couple to help the campaign, and now the two have a full-time PR manager that deals with the press and protects them from the ridiculous allegations of some papers. They try to stay optimistic and deal with the situation one day at a time, but having your child kidnapped is one of the worst things anyone can ever go through.

Blair on sale
by Claudia Sonea

It is of course a joke; the former Prime Minister is thinking to write his memoirs from the time he was at the country's charge. Although it comes as no surprise to anyone, the newspapers already are making a big fuss over the whole issue. Rumor has it that Robert Barnett, the famous lawyer who handled the contract of Bill Clinton for his memoirs, getting him a record deal of 12 million dollars. The ex-US President released his autobiography titled My Life and appointed the lawyer to take care of the financial aspect of talking with publishers on his behalf. A spokesman doing his duty as a diplomat stated that Blair is collaborating with the publisher to the creation of his biography- a smooth way of making public that an autobiography is on its way. However, the success of the book might be compromised by the fact that Alastair Campbell, former media chief of the Blair years, has already written a book about the Labour government. Also John Prescott is supposed to write a book. The former Prime Minister, presently Middle East peace envoy for the Quartet - the EU, US, UN and Russia, stepped down on June 27 with the sympathy of most of the British people, despite that in the last years a lot of them were against his attitude of following Bush in matters of foreign policy. Will his book get a similar contract as Bill Clinton's? Industry insiders say it will. Stay connected and find out how everything will turn out.

Chris Cantell Discusses UK News: Expensive charity
by Claudia Sonea

National Audit Office said in a report that charity organizations have to deal the problem of funding that has a very complex system and needs to be solved. Parliament's spending watchdog criticized too the funding arrangements for national charities that have become complex due to the fact that a single charity receives a small amount of money from various bodies including central government departments, local authorities and primary care trusts. This affects not only the quality of the service, but also the taxpayer value. The charities have around 4,000 separate funding arrangements that require £400,000 every year. Joe Cavanagh, NAO business development director, described funding arrangements as often unnecessarily complex and costly and the solution put forward was that public bodies collaborate among each other and make sure the funding is practical, in order for their value to remain unspoiled by bureaucracy. Shadow charities minister Greg Clark revealed the failure of the government's strategy in the third sector and that is the reason why it was brought before Parliament just before the Summer recess. According to him, Ed Miliband as the cabinet minister responsible should solve the mess and do some changes. Twelve large charities, including the British Red Cross and Citizens Advice are in this awful situation and they are struggling to function despite the chaotic system. Although Office of the Third Sector and the Treasury had begun to work on these issues, there is an urgent need for something more to be done. Until further news about the solutions found, surf some more and enjoy.

Madeleine"s disappearance
by Claudia Sonea

The girl that disappeared a hundred days ago, on May 3, is still missing and there are no clues of her whereabouts. Recently, "Jornal de Noticias", one of the top-selling daily newspapers published a report in which appeared the information that British sniffer dogs had detected traces of blood on a wall in the hotel room in Praia da Luz in Portugal's Algarve region. However, police has refused to comment and did not deny or confirm the rumors. Portuguese media have received information from a person close to the investigation that a British laboratory was analyzing blood samples. Also the theory of Madeleine's death in an accident or murdered was brought forward. Gerry and Kate MacCann refuse to believe such theories and say that Portuguese police did not stated even once that their daughter might be dead. Chief inspector Olegario Sousa, a Portuguese police spokesman, in a statement to Lusa news agency said that the parents are not suspects and a lot of people will be interrogated in the following days. Until now the only suspect is the 33-year-old British national Robert Murat. David Hughes, the family spokesman, told reporters that the couple met with Portuguese police in the southern fishing port city of Portimao to discuss about how the investigation is going. They both regret very much that they left their children unsupervised. Although they checked on them every half-hour, they could have hired a babysitter because the resort had a babysitting service. In one of Europe's top tourist destinations happened the tragedy and despite the fact that police is still searching the chances for her to be alive are very little, because there are 100 days already since she went missing. Let's hope she is alright and say a pray for her and for her parents.

Prince Harry in Afghanistan
by Jana Passova

Prince Harry has chosen to serve in poor and barren zone. Not really comfortable for the member of the Royal family. He has taken a part on the front line with his British army unit in Afghanistan. To serve in combat zone was his requirement to stay in army. The only royal, who served in a such danger place, was his uncle Prince Andrew. He flew helicopters during war in 1982. Officials of Britain were trying to keep Prince's location in secrecy. Unfortunately someone published a video of serving Harry on the U.S. Web site the Drudge Report. Although nothing bad has happened, military chiefs wanted to change Prince's position to ensure his safety. He has been in Afghanistan since Christmas Eve. According to his pronouncement, he is satisfied maybe little bit boring because like he has said, nothing was happening. Soldiers usually serve in Afghanistan six months, but the British Prince has stayed only ten weeks. Harry was supposed to go to Iraq in May last year with Blues and Royals regiment. The situation has changed because of security fears. There occurred some messages on Internet chat rooms, that it would not be a good idea to leave home. Prince Harry had not any privileges in Iraq. He stayed without shower for several days and ate the same corned beef, hash and drank drinks without an alcohol as everybody else. Harry was trained at Sandhurst military academy and joined Blues and Royals in a cornet position. Harry is the third in a line for the throne. His older brother William, the second in a line for the throne, is also graduated from Sandhurst as a military pilot. There is only a small chance, he will ever see combat.

Chris Cantell Discusses UK News: What a man!
by Claudia Sonea

Prince Charming!fairytale, but Prince Harry has all the features of an authentic knight in shinning armor and can sweep you of you feet. He is handsome, brave and he is not afraid to stand out and fight for his beliefs. In Afghanistan the Ministry of Defense announced Thursday that the Prince fought on the front line with the British Army, calling in airstrikes on Taliban positions and going out on foot patrols. Harry, third in line to the throne, went in Afghanistan on December and since then he managed to be an example, so they say- the officials like the head of the army, Gen. Richard Dannatt. The prince is a lieutenant in the Blues and Royals regiment and the planned deployment was presented very elliptically to the reporters, with no specific date, and was not reported previously under a pool agreement between the Ministry of Defense and all major news organizations operating in Britain, including The Associated Press with the purpose to reduce the risk to the prince and his regiment. However, there was a leak and an Australian magazine and a German newspaper, and then a U.S. Web site, the Drudge Report, managed to break the news on his deployment. In the restive Helmand province, where most of the 7,800 British troops in Afghanistan are based, according to the military's statement, the prince wanted to be deployed and in an interview he said he was happy to be standing shoulder-to- shoulder with his colleagues. He also expressed bitter disappointment when he was banned from going to Iraq with his battalion last year. Video footage of Harry in Afghanistan showed the prince dressed in camouflage fatigues patrolling arid and dusty terrain, firing a machine gun. Nevertheless Harry graduated from Sandhurst military academy in 2006 being trained as a tank commander. For all the pretty ladies out there, this gorgeous prince is still single and not afraid to stand out from the codes imposed by the nobility and his grand-mother. Why are you still waiting, light a candle and pray for him, so that God protect him.

Royal return
by Claudia Sonea

The Royal House of Great Britain is celebrating the return of Prince Harry from his abandoned military mission to Afghanistan. Nevertheless the joy won't last due to his eagerness to return to combat zones as soon as possible. He was forced to come back from his tour of duty that originally was to last until April because a magazine and Web sites disclosed details of his whereabouts (his mission had gone unreported as part of an agreement, designed to protect the 23-year-old prince and his fellow soldiers, between the Ministry of Defense and major news organizations) putting in danger not only him, but also his colleagues. Harry landed at an air force base on Saturday after serving for 10 weeks as a soldier in Afghanistan's volatile Helmand province and he was welcomed by his father, Prince Charles, and brother, Prince William. Although he is disappointed for returning earlier and not together with his mates and asked his commanding officer to approve a new mission, Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, head of Britain's armed forces said Sunday that it all depends on the amount of risks that he poses to his colleagues. Gen. Sir Richard Dannatt, head of Britain's army, added that there is no immediate prospect of the prince returning to the front line for 12 to 18 months. William, second in line to the British throne, has trained as a fighter pilot and is likely to serve overseas to areas such as the South Atlantic, the Persian Gulf, the Pacific Ocean or the West Indies with the military, probably on board a Royal Navy warship, the defense ministry said, according to officials. Harry says that his brother is eager and can hardly wait to take charge upon the enemy line. Prince Charles said Britain's royal family was happy and disappointed in the same time because the prince was forced to abandon his tour. Their main relief was to see him back in one piece. Security officials acknowledged that his role in Afghanistan could make him a target for extremists in Britain and the posts on al-Qaida-affiliated Web forums proves their suppositions are not without grounds. One post called for the prince to be killed and a video of his death sent to his family. Britain's royal family was always brave; Prince Andrew flew Royal Navy helicopters during the 1982 Falklands War, while their grandfather, Prince Philip, served on Royal Navy battleships during World War II. Both heirs to the throne have from where to inherit the bravery. A well deserved bravo to them!

The foot-and-mouth virus strikes back

Officials working on the case of the foot-and-mouth virus believe it escaped from a facility dedicated to eliminating the animal disease. The laboratory considered to be responsible for this accident is a government research center and a company that makes foot-and-mouth vaccine. If we look at the full side of the glass we'll have to be glad that the virus wasn't spread by other animals and can be contained. This information isn't unfortunately 100 per cent confirmed. The agriculture department said that the particular strain of the highly infectious disease was identical to one used at the lab. The government is working on discovering the transmission mechanism and isn't ruling out any sources.British livestock, meat and milk exports have been stopped and the movement of cattle, sheep, goats and pigs nationwide has been halted. The British have confronted before with this problem, in 2001 when carcasses of the 7 million culled cattle were burned on huge pyres. The farming industry had a lot to suffer and rural tourism was almost dead. The general elections were postponed for a month because of the tragedy back then. The virus isn't dangerous for humans although they can very rarely be affected through contact with sick animals. The foot-and-mouth virus is sensitive to stomach acid and it cannot spread to humans via consumption of infected meat.

Foot-and-mouth situation still under control

After the discovery of the foot-and-mouth disease in Britain, authorities are taking measures to ensure the virus doesn't spread across the country. Some say it came from the Pirbright laboratory in Surrey, which apparently contained 5,000 strains of this virus in its laboratory. The Pirbright facility receives samples of viruses that cause animal infection from all over the world and security measures will have to be strengthened if evidence that a strain of the virus has escaped. This type of disease only affects cattle and other farm animals and rarely harms people and at the time the crisis started, a pharmaceutical company was researching a vaccine against it. Keeping in mind the last outbreak in 2001 that led to the destruction of more than 6.5 million animals, British authorities aren't taking any chances and have created a protection zone around the area where the disease has been discovered. They have also placed a voluntary ban on exports of cattle, pigs and sheep, even before the European Commission had asked for such a measure. This will cost the UK billions of pounds and cause a decrease in tourism rates, as was the case in 2001, but authorities put the safety of population first. Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown, along with Conservative Party leader David Cameron have interrupted their holidays to get involved in ending the crisis. Both of them have high hopes that the situation will not get out of hand and the damage will not be as great as six years ago.

Chris Cantell Discusses UK News: Britain 'could lose security council seat'

Lord Malloch Brown, the new Foreign Office Minister, suggested Britain to hand over the seat at the UN Security Council to the European Union.According to a report from EU Observer he said the EU was gradually heading towards one seat within the UN organisations."I think it will go in stages. We are going to see a growing spread of it, institution by institution. It is not going to happen with a flash and bang," Lord Brown said. But Conservatives are not very happy about his affirmations, William Hague the Shadow Foreign Secretary, said: "It is alarming that Gordon Brown has chosen to put in charge of UN reform the man who thinks we should give up our UN Security Council seat to the EU.""The new Treaty, like the old, could automatically let the EU foreign minister speak for Britain at the UN Security Council in certain situations. This is clearly the thin end of the wedge for an EU take-over of our UN seat."Although the Government has tried to delete a clause that allowed the EU to speak at the Security Council on some matters, it failed. The comments were made by Lord Brown during a visit to diplomats in Brussels last year, before he became a member of the Government. He caused a controversy when he suggested that Britain and US would no longer be "joined at the hip"

Chris Cantell Discusses UK News: Tornadoes scared England
by Nina Gotzmannova

On Monday saw the residents of central and southern England something they would never expect to come near their homes. A tornado. This unusual weather phenomenon ripped off several roofs, torn off branches from trees and in people of two British towns, Nuneaton and Farnborough, left an unforgettable feeling of something strange. A series of tornadoes arises during a big storm and destroyed everything on its way. Eyewitnesses said that the whole incident lasted only couple of minutes, but ripped off the roofs on more than 10 houses. Fortunately no one was injured. It wasn't the first incident in England this year. According to Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO) there have been nine more accidents across the country, which may be tornadoes. They were witnessed for example in Warwickshire or Northamptonshire. Last year in December the residential area of northwestern London was hit by a tornado. Six people were injured and more than 100 houses were damaged. A tornado is a fast rotating column of air, which touches a cloud on one side and earth on the other. It usually has a shape like a column or a tube. Usually they occur in United States, but sometimes in Canada, Asia, Africa and Europe too. In England are tornadoes quite rare, according to TORRO there is about 33 tornadoes each year. Even though in England is the highest number of reported tornadoes per unit area in the world. The reason is that there live more people in a relatively small area and, of course, they pay more attention to the weather.

Chris Cantell Discusses UK News: Diana's death investigated
by Claudia Sonea

On 31 August 1997 due to a tragic accident caused allegedly by the fact that Henri Paul, Acting Security Manager of the Hôtel Ritz Paris, was driving under the influence of alcohol, all the British people were mourning the loss of their Princess of Hearts. Diana Frances, born Spencer, married the heir of the throne prince Charles of Wales with whom she had two children, William and Henry. That led to the loss of anonymity and entrance in the people's attention who were fascinated with her royal status. Even after the divorce, most of the people sympathized with her, mostly because her charity works. She remained in media's attention who was constantly on her tracks and that eventually led to her tragic ending. In the night of the tragic event she was at the Ritz Hotel together with her lover Dodi Al-Fayed, 42 years old, son of Mohamed Al-Fayed, the multimillionaire who owns the Hotel. Together with Henri Paul and Trevor Rees-Jones, Dodi's bodyguard, they tried to escape the paparazzi, therefore engaged in a high speed car, in the Pont d'Alma road tunnel in Paris the car, a '94 black Mercedes-Benz S280, crashed into the thirteenth pillar of the tunnel. It is absolutely inhuman how the paparazzi were more interested to take photos of the accident than the people who were trapped in the car. The only survivor was the bodyguard sitting on the passenger seat, Dodi and Henri died instantly, while Diana suffered massive damage to her heart and subsequent internal bleeding. Despite the efforts to resuscitate her, the Princess of Hearts died on the ambulance to the Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière. In London a jury was formed in order to establish if the death was an accident and on Monday and Tuesday they will trace back the last day of the couple. Lord Justice Scott Baker, knowing how the event will attract media's attention, urged for the eleven jurors (six women and five men) to be left alone, because they are already under a lot of pressure due to their responsibility. Both French and British police after careful investigation concluded that it was caused by the chauffer who was found to have a three times more amount of alcohol in his blood, than the legal limit. However, Mohamed accused the British security of killing them and reasoned with the fact that Princess' marriage with a Muslim would not be appropriate for the Royal House. Stay close there are more to come on this. Until then let's keep a moment of silence in the honor of a woman who proved that we all are human beings beyond social status. She was the first celebrity touching a child with HIV. She dedicated her life to her children and to all the causes in the world. She really made a difference.

A 28 billion pound fraud

by Claudia Sonea

Well it's nothing new that there are people that try to con other people in exchange of earning easy and quick money, but this time the forgers went overboard. Six defendants from Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and Australia had tried to con the Bank of England and steal 28 billion pounds with badly made fake notes. Everything started in December last year when, Ross Cowie, an Australian lawyer who sent an email to the bank saying he represents six ancient members of a pre-communist Chinese clan. He was interested if the clan's 500000 pound notes could be changed in smaller notes. Furthermore the gang of counterfeiters tried to use a bunch of 1000 pound notes, out of circulation since 1943; except 63 notes everything was gathered back by the bank. London's Southwark Crown Court and the jury made out of eight men and four women found out that the 360 notes of 500000 pounds have never existed. Prosecutor Martin Evans stated that if the notes have been indeed authentic, they would worth three quarters of the 39 billion pounds that are used around the world nowadays. However, the notes were even badly counterfeited, because the Bank of England chief cashier from 1963, Sir Jasper Quintus Hollam always used his first two initials when signing his name, while the forged notes had only the second. Chin Daniel Lim, a 50 years old man from Malaysia, Kim Ming Teo, 41, Ping Shuen Mak and Chi Kuen Chung, 53, from Hong Kong, also Kwok Kwong Chan, 55, from China are the five other counterfeiters. They all live in London area and deny the accusations. The trial will last at least six weeks. Obviously the bank had the smart idea of alluring the Australian lawyer in telling that they want to check the special notes and sent at the meeting an undercover officer. There you have it. Don't try to con a national bank or at least don't be greedy or you might get the attention on you. Good luck to the forgers and keep some really cash for the prison (in)mates.

Chris Cantell Discusses UK News: British consumers can live without mortgages

by Corina Ciubotaru

The global credit crunch is starting to show its many results and one of them is that consumers now take much less credit than before. Banks and other lenders have toughened their conditions for issuing a loan and this came as a shock for the consumers, whose lack of liquidities is what caused this mayhem in the first place. Effects of the credit crisis appeared all over the world but they were most felt in the U.S. and the U.K. where lending is still being done with great caution. Personal loan rates have increased by 4 percent and over 60 mortgage applications have been rejected last month, but consumers are starting to repay some of their debts and all signs point to a recovery in 2008. In the UK, most debts are in London, followed by Liverpool and Birmingham and some consider them to be mainly due to Brits impossibility to save money and their reliance on credits because of the high cost of living. Some good news for homeowners is that interest rates will go down next year, contrary to some expectations, and reach 6 percent. The Bank of England raised the rates to a six-year high of 5.75 percent and it made consumers take care of things like bills and savings, instead of borrowing. But even though they naturally adapt to changes in the market, regular consumers don't actually understand what is happening to the British economy. A recent study showed that 70 percent of Brits lack even the basic understanding of things like interest rates.

Chris Cantell Discusses UK News: Parents of missing Maddie deny using sedatives

by Nina Gotzmannova

Three year old British girl Maddie McCann is still missing. Since her disappearing in Portugal in May, the police, in spite of world spread media coverage, wasn't able to find this blonde daughter of two English doctors. They were desperate seeking in Portugal, Spain and North Africa, they had the support of many British celebrities, and finally in September they become suspects. On Wednesday, Gerry and Kate McCann appeared in Spanish TV in the first television interview since September. The Portugal police have a theory about Maddie. They anticipate that Gerry and Kate McCann gave Maddie sedatives to calm her down, because they wanted to go to a restaurant nearby. They left her dazzled in their apartment with her two younger siblings, but when they came back, horrified realized, that the girl is dead. They panicked and disposed her body, saying their daughter is missing and pretending they are innocent.Maddie's parents strictly denied this accusing. They say they are innocent and all the theory about drugging their daughter is "outrageous". In the interview the parents also said they still believe their daughter is alive, not dead as the officials are assuming, and they hope the abductor will return her home. The saddest thing about this case is that missing Maddie is only one of thousands kids that disappeared every day. Every year disappears 797,500 children in United States only. Maddie is a small drop in a sea full of missing daughters, sons, cousins and grandchildren. The media coverage didn't help finding her, but there are thousands of anonymous kids the world doesn't care about. And the question is, why?

Brown maintaining security in South Iraq
by Zuzana Moravcova

As the British government outlined the first steps in a rethink of the war on terrorism in November, they decided to begin withdrawing their troops from Iraq.Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown made an unannounced visit to Basra in Iraq to mobilise troops and confirmed that Iraqi forces will take command of the last region under British control within two weeks. It was in accordance to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who recommends responsibility for security in southern Iraq to be handed over to local police and soldiers.Brown said they were able to move to provincial Iraqi control thanks to everything the soldiers had achieved.Britain believes there is going to be transition from a military mission in Iraq to one with a stronger economic component, aimed at bracing a country divided by war and years of neglect under Saddam Hussein. Earlier the Chancellor said it was crucial for Iraq to be seen to be 'running its own affairs' and offering £100m for economic reconstruction. Unemployment is supposed to be a factor in helping to recruit insurgents. In October, Tony Blair suggested that British forces could be home from Iraq within the next 12 to 18 months. "We have got to help the Iraqi economy get back on its feet so we can see Iraq running its own affairs, and we could see a reduction in troops over the next few months."A total of 173 members of British troops have died in Iraq since the invasion in March 2003.Due to the $12 billion annual price tag of operations in Iraq, Britain's participation in the invasion of Iraq led by U. S. and the ongoing presence of their troops is becoming strongly unpopular in Britain.

Gordon Brown's Party second, shows newest poll
by Nina Gotzmannova

Who has birthday on the same day as Kurt Cobain and Cindy Crawford? If you said Ivana Trump and Gloria Vanderbilt, you were right. But one of the most powerful man in the world celebrates on this special day too. His name is Gordon Brown, he is Prime Minister of United Kingdom and recently wearing his head low. The polls showed his party is not the most popular one in the country. The Ipsos Mori poll, done for one of the British newspapers, shows the truth. Ipsos Mori called more than 1,000 people to ask them about their political opinion. Only 11 percent is supporting Liberal Democrats. Exactly 38 % is for Labourists, Brown's party and three percents more, 41%, is voting for Tories and Conservatives. Gordon Brown probably has to try harder. He promised to beat corruption, maybe introduce a new ministerial code to set borders for ministers how to behave, built up to 100,000 new homes and improve health care. All this steps may lead to higher preferences in the polls, but only if done correctly and fast. But at first he has to switch to a more ecological car, a promise he had made, but not fulfilled. Even his family life is not gaining him more popularity. Almost "newlywed", only seven years married man has two kids, but his wife wishes to remain hidden. She is not much public person, as former "fist wife" Cherie Blair was, so she is not helping Brown with publicity affairs. But since the general elections are at least a year away, Brown and Labour Party have plenty of time to improve their ratings in public.

UK don"t take terrorism seriously

by Nina Gotzmannova

United Kingdom doesn't take the problem of terrorism seriously enough. Or that is the result of the words of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah. He spoke in an interview with the BBC on Monday and revealed some interesting information and opinions. He also hinted that UK had information about the terroristic attack in 2005 but the government just didn't care.According to King Abdullah, Saudi Arabia sent information about potential terrorist attacks. To their surprise no action was taken and the London metro was hit by dangerous invaders. King Abdullah directly accused government of failing to protect the country and the world against terrorism. He also believes that the information provided by Saudi Arabia was so relevant that the attack in 2005 shouldn't happen. But the opposite side says something else. The report from Intelligence and Security Committee in May 2006 said that the information from Saudi Arabia was not essential. The reason is that the data was simply not detailed enough to use it. It was too general and British security forces received lot of similar information that time. They didn't investigate anything from the Saudi source, because it was so general.King Abdullah of course denied that his info was not relevant and blames Great Britain and other large countries of not handling the danger of terrorism properly. Maybe he is right and world is still deaf, blind and dumb to this risks. Or maybe he is wrong and the world is taking enough care. But why still are so many religious and absurd deadly attacks all over the world?

Hard to calculate, hard to count.

by Barbie Kunkelova

The UK government messed up. Tit has no idea who is entering the country, who stays and who leaves. Currently 200,000 more people move into UK to stay than leave each year. Such large figure and yet it screwed up by more. After announcing that the amount of immigrants to UK increased by 800,000 during the past 10 years, it fell short off the real figure by 300,000 & it was 1.1 million. Later on it apologized for its mistake publicly; the Work and Pensions Secretary Peter Hain announced the new result basically during Tory leader David Cameron's speech on immigration (on October 30). Here Cameron said immigration makes it difficult for the government to deliver its visions of opportunity, responsibility and security. He disagreed with Gordon Brown's (the Prime Minister's) views and thinks that Brown can not handle the immigration problem properly. According to the UK Office for National Statistics, the UK's population will rise by 11 million (to 71 million) by 2031, on current trends. That might cause higher pressure for the citizens; problems with housing, education, transportation system, energy and water supplies and healthcare. Cameron also reminded of the increasing single-person household problem. The trends of divorcing, family break-ups and later marriage spread from the US all the way to the UK and are along with ageing a serious threat for the society. He votes for enforcing the Border Police & for controlling the people crossing the UK border more precisely plus tracking and removing the immigrants. But the UK leaders should not be surprised by the amount of people wanting to "move in", that is only one of the amazing results an advanced, open economy brings along. Mr. Cameron might come up with a complete vision of UK visa pretty soon.

Ex-British premier "For Sale"
by Zuzana Zelenakova

Anthony Charles Lynton Blair has served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from May 1997 to June 2007. But if you think he might long for peace and quiet existence after ten years in high politics you are gravely mistaken. After resigning as British PM he was appointed as Middle East Envoy for the United Nations, United States, European Union and Russia. He spends a lot of time in Jerusalem working unpaid with full-time staff of 12 people. It was confirmed this month that Blair will also act as a part-time senior advisor to investment bank JP Morgan Chase. He will advise to Swiss insurance firm Zurich as well. Blair admitted himself he could very well go on like that and accept even more similar posts as he got used to "tremendous load" as PM .He earned over â≠€7 million this year alone. Some say his need for money is due to the fact he has a â≠€3.5 million mortgage for London townhouse to take care of. Anyway, one thing is certain, Blair is on good way to become the richest ex prime minister in history. According to the media, Blair even aspires to become the first President of the European Council. We can very well call the post "President of Europe".

Gordon Brown faces the "secret donation"
by Daniela Simkova

Gordon Brown had discovered the anonymous donation for the Labour Party. Mr. Brown had noticed this firstly on saturday night probably with no pleasure since it was unlawfull donation. Mr. Browm revealed on his monthly conference that the Labour Party had obtained £600,000 from Mr. Abrahams, which was made through proxy. Mr. Brown denied any relation to Mr. Abrahams. Mr. Brown claimed: "What has happened, where political donations have not been lawfully declared, is completely unacceptable, cannot be justified in anyway, and this behaviour should never happen again in future." We can assume that all the money are being returned to Mr. Abrahams."I would welcome any investigation that takes place into this. It is necessary that this matter be cleared up once and for all," said Mr. Brown while asking about the opinion if there is needed any criminal investigation. The investigation is dependent on the final statement od the Ellectoral Commision, which is already analyzing this problem. One of the facts that came on the ground was that Mr. Abrahams associates' gave a large amount of money to The Labour Party, each on one day in July, as a gift. Mr. Abrahams believes that he had not done anything wrong with this donation.

The global warming is labeled as a nominal problem. Mankind can avoid it by decreasing of producing the carbon dioxide emissions. The Confederation of British Industry made its option to study green technology as for the help to fight against the global warming. "We will do what it takes" expressed his attitude to climate problem Ben Verwaayen, BT chief executive at The Confederation of British Indusrty conference in London. For the organizations as Friends of the Earth, or Greenpeace is a pleasure to know that The Confederation of British Industry cares for the environment and much more that delivers a message of high importance of this "green" actions to the government. The Confederation of British Industry is in antimony with the wanting of companies to go green and on the other hand for instance with road building. These two negate each other. The Confederation of Britihs Industry though takes as an obligation to continue on the study of green techniques as well as to save large amount of carbon dioxide emissions in three years.

George Clooney is a United Nations messenger
by Daniela Simkova

George Clooney became a United Nations messenger of peace. He was supposed to present his message of peace in Sudan's Darfur, but unfortunately he was blocked from the speech. Some diplomats think that his presence in Darfur is of no importance.Clooney delivered his message through the news conference. He thinks that the message is the most important fact in this world. George Clooney said that this message is what people watch and that this fact ensures no fail in human believes. "Millions are homeless, not from famine or disease or acts of God, but from a well armed militia intent on ridding the land of its people," said George Clooney. The actor raised money for refugees through the charity and pointed at the crisis in Darfur. He said that people don't want to see much violence in the world, they tend not to see everything that is happening in the world. "It seems as if at times celebrity can bring that focus. It can't make the policies, it can't change people's minds really, but you can bring a camera where you go because they'll follow you and you can shine a light on it. That seems to be my job."There are several more famous people who are messengers for the U.N., they are for instance Michael Douglas, Paulo Coelho, Jane Goodall and many more.

What a man!
by Claudia Sonea
