BA: Think twice before you act!
by Barbora Misakova

Think twice before you act. That should the establishment of British Airways do before they decided to save some money at the expense of its employees. That could save not only their money but also fair reputation. Now they have to face even bigger troubles they expected. After failed negotiations between British Airways and the Unite union – which represents its 12,000 cabin crew – the largest airline in the UK has to count with another strike. The first, three-day strike ended on Monday and cost British Airways over 10 million dollars a day. Over the first two days of the strike, the airline ran 78 percent of its long-haul flights and 50 percent of its short-h! aul flights. But it is not over yet. Another, this time four-day strike is starting next Saturday. Downgrading employees’ pay and perks packages wasn’t worth it as these protests can cost airlines more than 63 million of GBP. That is even more what should have been saved by these restrictions. While airlines’ employees are worrying about their financial means and other advantages, British Airways and Prime Minister Gordon Brown worry about threatening Easter holiday plans. There is also Britain’s global reputation that is threatened. Conservatives have accused the government of a limp response to the strike, but as spokesman for Brown said: “The prime minister has always been conscious throughout this period that the people who really suffer are the customers.” And it is really them who wish this problem to be solved as soon as possible.
